ST. PETERSBURG — Desmond Jennings continues to miss time using left knee soreness, and yes it doesnt look like the Rays leadoff gentleman is getting much closer to returning to center field.
I reemphasized with him or her, When you know its starting to sense well enough, give me at least daily to start making different programs, manager Joe Maddon said ahead of Thursdays series finale against the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field. He assured me that he would, but from the look on his face last night, I wasnt encouraged it is gonna happen any time soon. However, I still dont think it really is anything really serious.
Jennings status is day to day since he was first scratched before last Fridays recreation against the Red Sox. But this individual hasnt played since, and Thursday was his location straight game out of the starting lineup.
Id be playing if I could play, Jennings explained. Im not going to shut this down.
The knee soreness seemed to be caused by a bone bruise that Jennings suffered after fouling a ball down his knee before the All-Star bust. It has been bothering him ever since. Jennings said hes not affected when walking, but he is whenever running.
Maddon said he has chatted with head athletic fitness instructor Ron Porterfield, and they do not think Jennings would be risking more serious harm by playing. But they dont want to rush him back to this line of business until he can tolerate this nagging soreness.
The skipper also stated that without the flexibility allowed simply by September roster expansions, Jennings might have been placed on the disabled list.
Possibly, Maddon stated. Its just at the point today where were covered, therefore we can be a little bit more cautious. Its a legitimate question.
