LOS ANGELES — Dodgers starting catcher A.J. Ellis proceeded the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of a sprained right ankle he suffered during the on-field celebration regarding Josh Becketts no-hitter Sunday in Philadelphia.
I contacted the dogpile, jumped and gotten on Drew Buteras discarded face mask, said Ellis, who did not catch Becketts gem. Its a pretty greatly sprained right ankle. I folded it over pretty good.
I believed right away it was bad. I did treatment on the flight back. I called [trainer] Stan [Conte] this morning and advised him I couldnt play for few days. I told him it was best for the pub to get a catcher [Tim Federowicz, recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque] upward here.
Ellis was on the Defensive line earlier this season because of quit knee surgery, missing Thirty-four games. He was initialized May 14. Ellis obviously failed to want to land on the Defensive line again, but he contracted with the move, because the Dodgers currently have walking wounded in shortstop Hanley Ramirez (coin), who hasnt started since Thursday, but likely is just not going on the DL.
Its the appropriate decision for the team,In . Ellis said. Hanleys on the mend. I cant put [manager] Don [Mattingly] in a postion where he only has players that cant play on the counter.
Butera started again Monday from the Reds. Mattingly said he would switch between Butera and Federowicz depending on matchups, as they did during Ellis knee personal injury.
I know he feels horrible [about the way it happened], Mattingly said. Well make it through it.
Mattingly also said Ramirez becomes closer to a return.
Hopefully, just one more evening, the manager claimed. As of right now, hes experiencing better. I think hes going to understand the doctor today. Well see.
