CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Tigers hopped on Kyle Kendrick early Friday from Bright House Field, even so the Phillies came back in a big way.
Kendrick allowed a three-run double to Nick Castellanos having two outs in the first inning to give the Tigers a three-run direct, but the Phillies scored one run in the second and eight more in the third on their way to a 10-6 victory.
Darin Ruf singled to score Marlon Byrd within the second to make it 3-1. The Phillies and then scored eight in the 3rd, which Jimmy Rollins capped with a three-run great hit to right field. Philly took advantage of Tigers reducer Jhan Marinez, who struggled with get, and errors in the subject, scoring five unearned runs.
Obviously the 1st inning was a little rough,Inch said Kendrick, who walked a few and struck out a few in two innings. I couldnt throw hits. My command was away. I was trying to rush slightly. I dont think Ill go walking three guys again this specific spring. That wont happen all over again.
Tigers starter Jose Alvarez allowed one operated with two hits, walking 2 and striking out 2, over two innings.
The Tigers, whom had a split-squad Friday, scored several runs in the sixth inning versus Luis Garcia, including Castellanos second RBI double, to make it 9-6.
Up next: Phillies right-hander David Buchanan will get the commencement Saturday afternoon against the Yankees in Tampa, Fla., (1:05 p.m. ET, reside on MLB.TV) but everybody will be focused on fellow right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, who follows Buchanan. He or she signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Phillies last year, but stays a great unknown. He has not pitched competitively in some time period after fleeing Cuba, so this will be his first true test.
